First off, big ups to William (Mi4SI) and Ray (Speedymon). Tonight, around 8pm, I received a phone call from a former Mi-4 member, formerly known as Watkins, (AKA Smoke).. This guy was from back in the day, and was one of the first 10 or so members. Well anyway, he's gotten out of the Army since and has moved on to other things, however, we still keep in touch and so on.
Well, tonight, he was traveling from New Jersey, down to Fort Bragg, NC to see his Wifey, when he ended up getting stopped for speeding. A license check reveals that his drivers license are suspendeded for some previous offense, LOL ( this guy is worse than me, and never learns). The State Trooper gives him a ticket, and tells him that he's has to get his car impounded, unless he can get someone to come recover it, from the side of the highway.
He calls me and ask, you got any boys up here in NOVA? ( he was stopped somewhere up around the Tyson's Corner area, or somewhere close to Exit 170 on I-95). I thought, and called up Will, he was down, but unfortunately, he was a little on the sick side and had just taken some meds. Next I called Ray.. Shyt, dude jumped straight up, (said he had already laid down), asked his partner to ride shot gun, and said, I need to go get my boy, from the side of the highway. With that, he said, ok, i can do this. I gave him Smoke's number and they were on their way. The situation called for Ray and another person, because someone would be needed to drive Smoke's rental from the side of the highway.
Well, they tried to beat the tow truck, (Trooper called a tow-truck anyway, and told Smoke, that if it beat Ray there, then he would have to get towed anyway). The tow truck got there first, and he was taken to a nearby gas station, he linked up with Ray, and they came there, scooped him up and they drove off the lot, on down the road a good bit. Smoke regrouped and left from there. I never asked if he kept on to Fort Bragg, or he turned around and went back to Jersey.
To sum it up, our boys came through. I thought that Smoke and Ray had met before, but Ray said he had heard of him, but had never met him, from back in the day. Never the less, he took care of this guy, and it made me feel good to know that we have people like that in our crew. Sorry for making this a book, but I just want to give credit to our boys..
